PWBA bike night and afternoon ride?
Sarah, Nic and others expressed interest at the last meeting in having a PWBA bike-education event of some sort where we could all learn basic bike skills, maybe fixing a flat and adjusting brakes. I can provide some teaching, but Lorae is a much better mechanic than I am. Ideally I would like to hold it at the Bike Kitchen, since they have tools and space available, and again Lorae would know whether or not this is possible.
Alicia and I also briefly talked about having a City Riding 101 afternoon, where anyone interested could come along for a low-traffic, low-intensity jaunt and become more comfortable riding in an urban setting.

I'd be into this! I can pump up my tires (ha), but that's about it. I've been wanting to know more for a long time.
Re: PWBA bike night and afternoon ride?
i would be super into doing a ride all together and finally learning how to fix stuff on my bike! i've been wanting to learn how to take care of my bike by myself forever now so please let's do this!

Re: PWBA bike night and afternoon ride?
i'd really like to learn bike maintenance, especially changing a tube!
Re: PWBA bike night and afternoon ride?
Yeah this sounds cool. The shop is free most Sundays and luckily that is my only day off. We could do a little teaching then ride? Next Sunday? Zoe, I'd ask Nat to check the class schedule to see what Sunday's are available to us. I don't know how to check the class calendar and the internet scares me.
Re: PWBA bike night and afternoon ride?
Nat says the Bike Kitchen is currently free on Sundays after 11:30 am, which is when his class ends. I am working every Sunday this month until 3:30 PM, so if you think we could hold a class from 4-6/7pm without interfering with staff work night or a meeting that would work.
Re: PWBA bike night and afternoon ride?
Yeah that sounds cool. What Sunday do yall want? Next Sunday? Also, what kind of ride are we looking for? How far is the group able to ride?
Re: PWBA bike night and afternoon ride?
Zoe and I were talking about sticking to pretty low key streets that are generally flat and have bike lanes, such as Valencia, and possibly riding down to the Embarcadero.
If it's going to be this upcoming Sunday (the 12) I probably won't be able to make it.
If we wait to have it on the 19th, it might be better because there will have been more time to plan. Additionally, we would be able to tell everyone about it in person at our next meeting, which would fall a couple days beforehand. Would hate for anyone to miss out because they didn't check the forum.

Re: PWBA bike night and afternoon ride?
Yes I meant next Sunday, the 19th. I personally do not like Valencia, and would like to steer clear of streets similar. Even though there is a bike lane, that street is ridiculous for the amount of cars parked in the bike lane, or trying to pull into/out of a parking space. The embarcaderro is nice but the bike lane is small and the traffic is fast, so it is hard to ride with a group of people and stick together/hang out. How about riding to the beach using the wiggle? The wiggle is super low traffic with lots of other bikes, and half the ride would be in the park. If we did it on a Sunday the park would be closed to cars! Then we could have a picnic on the beach? New riders could also easily take a bus back to the mission if they don't feel like riding back.
Re: PWBA bike night and afternoon ride?
I really like the idea of riding to the beach (it also means we could bike through Golden Gate Park and they have huge bike lanes pretty much all the way down the beach and it's usually quiet traffic wise).

I like this idea very much! As I said previously the earliest I could go on a ride would be 4pm. If we started then, we would definitely be riding back after sunset. Is this OK? I'm also fine with skipping this ride if y'all want to start earlier in the day, though of course I would really like to come.
Re: PWBA bike night and afternoon ride?
i'd really like to do to this but i have a fieldtrip for class that i can't back on the 19th! but usually, all other sundays are free days for me. so let me know if this happens again in the future (i hope it does!!!!)!

Hey! Sounds good. I'm in for a ride to the Ocean this sunday (19). Where is the meeting point to begin the ride together? I'm interested to the class at Bike Kitchen either. Are both activities currently scheduled?

I can't do this Sunday either, but would want to go if it happens again!

If a group of you would like to come to bike kitchen this Saturday I can do a little flat-fixing class for you. My shift is 12-3pm so if you want to pick a time that works well for several people I can be ready. We can also use tubes/tires/wheels in the shop if its hard for you to bring your bike.
